I stumbled across the original photo of the boy on sxc.hu ([link]) and just felt compelled to do something with it. What I did do is almost too simple for me to even really want to submit it.
Partially inspired by one of the final scenes in Hiroshi Teshigahara's "The Face Of Another" in which the protagonist and his doctor walk against an endless wave of faceless people.
I don't know why, but the motif of facelessness, or obscured faces, has always really appealed to me. You could probably talk about issues of identity and all that fun shit here, but moreso than that, I think it's just very unsettling.
If there's one purpose to my art, I guess, it's to unsettle. I'm not sure why I like being unsettled and want to unsettle others, but it seems to be what I'm drawn to most.
That's why I left the faded remnants of the boy's eyes and mouth. It seemed more unsettling to me.
Okay, enough of that shit, this isn't that great, but I'm really trying to get back into the habit of making shit that isn't entirely lame.
and #2 where have u been?
gosh darnit
